About me

My work is rooted in abstraction of the body through poetry, freehand embroidery, image transfers, and mixed media. I explore the idea of the body as a vessel, being the container of the soul. We associate the body with both human pleasure and pain, assigning identities through our outward appearance, yet the soul is the essence of existence. Using a personal narrative to ask the viewer to step into a space where the body is just a mere aura of their identity, I play with form, layers, and distorted text- allowing the viewer to come to a greater sense of the person inside. There is a focus on the female figure in my work, questioning the connotations we associate with the female form. The nude figure raises an uncomfortable silence, but the root of our experience is not in the shapes of the body, but the interior of the bodily container. My practice grapples with the bodily release of the soul within the vessel, trying to create an escape into an ephemeral state.
